The 2006 wines have a stylistically classic tannin structure and sit firmly in the Bordeaux camp. The wines whilst retaining our normal weight are more muscular than the plump 05's.
2006 Nine Popes: As always, shows that hint of trademark musk that denotes its Grenache heritage, but that muskiness then combined with the earth and spice of the two other varieties (Shiraz and Mataro) gives a degree of complexity. Swirl this wine around your mouth for a while to warm it up and release the other flavours...aniseed, sweet liquorice, cinnamon..a finer style more '96 than '98.
The Nine Popes is matured in a combination of French oak (80%) and American oak (20%), approximately 25% of which is new each year.
